What is technology?

I once believed technology was merely a facilitator. Now, I understand it to be more of a distributor. The difference between an average and a successful tech company lies in their proficiency at distribution, and the scarcity of what they are disseminating to society.

What do they distribute?

Examining tech companies you discover that they aim to distribute something. That 'something' could be a positive human emotion; like trust, status, or entertainment. Alternatively, it could be a technical attribute; such as speed or simplicity. The most successful companies often distribute a blend of both.

Let's consider some examples. Uber distributes the convenience of securing a ride through a device we use daily. Robinhood offers a quick and engaging method for stock trading. Shopify provides an affordable no-code solution for creating your dream e-commerce store. Twitter is a platform for distributing your thoughts in short form, while Instagram shares snapshots of people's best moments.

Smaller companies are niche distributors, while larger companies distribute a variety of services. Regardless of their size, tech companies adhere to the formula: Solve 'Y' by Distributing 'X'.
